Wine Industry Contest Held to Strenghten Connection to the Consumer
May 28, 2002 --- Napa, CA: To accelerate a transformation of the wine industry from an industry driven by supply, to an industry
that puts consumers first, WineVision is holding a nation-wide contest to generate messages that connect to consumer values.
In a recognition that different people drink wine for different reasons, through email, members of the wine community will
be invited to participate in this contest "to think anew to come up with a marketing slogan that is effective in encouraging
consumers to give wine a greater role in their everyday lives
WineVision: American Wine in the 21st Century is sponsoring this contest - complete with prizes - to assemble a menu of "consumer-first"
messages that will be made available to the wine community for their use. Wine drinkers and members of the wine industry
across the country are encouraged to come up with phrases, slogans, even bumper stickers that capture how wine enriches their

"We want to make wine more accessible by encouraging the industry to focus on the consumers first in our decision-making and
in our communications," says one of WineVision leaders, Bill Turrentine. "At WineVision our mandate is to act as a forum of
ideas that will help the wine community to become more responsive to the consumer," added David Freed, another WineVision
leader.
Winning messages will be announced at the WineVision annual meeting on July 10-11, 2002 in Napa, California and will be posted
on the WineVision website.
Prizes include contributions from Fetzer Vineyards, Beringer Blass, Robert Mondavi Winery and Kendall Jackson.
WineVision: American Wine in the 21st Century is an industry-wide strategic organization with a vision to make American wines
the pre-eminent supplier to the global marketplace.
This contest is void where prohibited by law. The submission of any entry constitutes consent to a transfer of ownership
to WineVision.
